Design Wall Monday

Thanks to Judy at Patchwork Times I get inspired every Friday to try and get SOMETHING done on my sewing machine. This weekend - with over 2 feet of snow to shovel - I thought I might not have time - but in the end - it only took 3 hours of shoveling to get out to the road - and with no swim meets or swim practices to attend - I had an entire weekend at my disposal !

First - catch up on a block of the month. Not real sure why I started with the BOM, but since it only has one more month left - I'll finish it. It'll make a great last minute gift next year !


Then - my first attempt at real applique - first I traced all the pieces on "Wonder Under" - it's the first time I've used this product - this part went really easy




Then match the pieces with the correct fabrics - I stopped there - need to pick up some vinyl at Joanns - unless I order it online - but Mona wants new curtains to go with her new bedding - so we'll probably hit the bricks and mortar store this week. I think she deserves it - first she helped me shovel all weekend - then she whipped up this dinner Saturday night - spinach and tomato linguini with shrimps, clams and scallops - with stuffed mushrooms on the side ! Recipes for both will be posted later - both were excellent. Tonight I'm making a peanut butter/chocolate cheesecake as a surprise for everyone - because I just found out - no school tomorrow !!! More time to sew !!




Yep - even with all the snow to shovel this past weekend - I finally found time to get my sewing machine dusted off.

What is the applique going to be? Looks like there might be some birds' feet in there. I love doing fusible web applique, and McKenna Ryan patterns.

I love fusible applique too-machine blanket stitched. The food looks incredible, I just ate dinner or I'd be drooling on my keyboard! Enjoy your day off sewing!

I am so happy to have something to share this week.  About a month ago, I received some inspiration from another blogger on Design Wall Monday - hosted by Judy at Patchwork Times .  I immediately fell in love with the star quilt that Kate from Life in Pieces   had put together using the pattern from Country Junktion .  I knew immediately that I could use it as the center of a quilt, and finally use those garden maze blocks that were sitting in my UFO pile.  What do you think ? This is the quilt made from the BOM pattern alone This is that same quilt surrounded by my garden maze blocks I started sewing the garden maze blocks together to see how big of a border I will be needing around the star blocks.  Now to figure out if I should border around each block, or just around the outside of the stars - what do you think?

Design Floor Monday

Thanks to Judy at Patchwork Times , I'm encouraged each week to have something new to show on my design floor (most people have a design wall ..... one day when I grow up, I'll have one too !) This week I'm taking out some UFO's from 2 years ago - I love these blocks, I made plenty of them for a wall hanging, but then I just kept making more and more, until I knew I wanted a bed size quilt.  I was going to lay them out in a 5 by 7 blocks, but since these are 9" blocks - and since the blocks I want to make as a border block are 13" blocks - I thought maybe it'd be easier to do 6 by 6 - so I need to make one more of these.  Gotta figure out how to get this block into my EQ program, because this is the block I want to use as a border I was going to make a bunch of these, all with blue star middles, but with different batiks on the outside color.  Of course, I could do THESE blocks for the main part of the quilt and use the others as a border ....  eit...

Menu Plan Monday - March 12

First - I want to say ---- to my WW back row bud - Karen - she hit her 10% today !!! WTG Karen! Second - I know it's only Saturday - but I have a busy weekend ahead - so going to get this up ahead of time. This weeks menu will have some repeats – don’t know what happened last week – but I must have changed things up. Some reviews – the lamb stew was excellent, as was the chicken and wild rice. The beef and green beans will not be made again. Saturday – Lamb on the grill with crockpot mashed potatoes Sunday – Goose and rice Monday – Homemade pizzas !! with baked sweet potato fries Tuesday – Creamed Chipped Beef Casserole and salads Wednesday – Hunan Flavored Drumsticks with rice Thursday – Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus with Tahini Dressing Friday – leftovers or Chicken Pot Pie Recipes for the asparagus and crockpot potatoes will be linked soon!
