My cyber sewing group has an "online sewing circle" the first full weekend of every month - some months it's the only time I turn my machine one.

So far this weekend I've managed to put a binding on a baby quilt (picture will be posted after it's gifted), make a pillowcase out of some orphan blocks, and take some exchange blocks - square them up - and turn them into a nice size lap quilt. If I have time later tonight - I'll wash the kitchen floor and get it sandwiched - if not - that'll wait until later in the week. I'm going to try and tie this one - I've never tied a quilt before - so if you have any helpful hints - I'd sure love to hear them !

http://floralshowers.com/sewing/how-to-tie-quilt/ here is a tutorial tying, so you don't cut the yarn (or embroidery floss) each time. I tied a quilt a while ago and used this method, it's lots faster than cutting and knotting each time.

It's lovely!
I have tied quilts before and my advice is use a big needle and cut long strands of your tying yarn. Then I made the stitches on all the spots I wanted them from left to right leaving the thread uncut. Then I went back and tied the first knot and cut the thread, pulled the thread along to the length I wanted the second knot, tied it and cut the thread. I just find you have less waste of your yarn this way (instead of cutting a bunch of strips ahead of time). Hope this makes sense! Have fun!

The only thing I would suggest is use a "C" shaped needle. Sorry I don't know what they're called. You can put the needle down in top of quilt, and come back up real close to where you went in and in one motion. I also use a thimble. (normally I just can't)but going through all those layers really makes the fingers sore. Joanne's has those needles if you don't already have them.

Love this quilt. Simple shapes but very effective use of colour.

Great quilt! I like those color combinations. Would you rate it easy or intermediate? I've never tied one either so I'll be interested to see how you like doing it.
