Design Wall Monday

I am so happy to have something to share this week.  About a month ago, I received some inspiration from another blogger on Design Wall Monday - hosted by Judy at Patchwork Times.  I immediately fell in love with the star quilt that Kate from Life in Pieces  had put together using the pattern from Country Junktion.  I knew immediately that I could use it as the center of a quilt, and finally use those garden maze blocks that were sitting in my UFO pile.  What do you think ?
This is the quilt made from the BOM pattern alone

This is that same quilt surrounded by my garden maze blocks

I started sewing the garden maze blocks together to see how big of a border I will be needing around the star blocks.  Now to figure out if I should border around each block, or just around the outside of the stars - what do you think?

I don't have an answer to your question, but what you have so far looks great!

LOVE the black with the brights. That really pops! The Garden Maze blocks are perfect with the star blocks.

Love, Love, Love it! I would do straight set just like you have with a nice spacer border in the open area. If you need to add sashings or spacer strips to get the math to work, keep them black to make the stars float within the space and it all looks planned.

I hope this one is for YOU! Love it.

This is going to be one fantastic quilt! I like the center as is, so I would find something interesting to do in the space--even some interesting quilting with a contrasting thread on a plain black border could work.

What an excitiing quilt that is going to be. I would not border the blocks, they are perfect just as you have them. For the inner border I would use a black with bright color in it. I have seen just such a fabric and it was made for your quilt. But I am sure that whatever you find/choose it will only inhance what you have done so far.

I would not sash those stars! Love the secondary pattern from the center star to the smaller ones! This is gorgeous!

I agree, no sashing to the stars! A border around the stars will look fab. This is so pretty and striking. Great job.
Breath taking! I do love the whole picture.

And NO sashing on the stars, leave them just like they are!

LOVE how you have things laid out right now. I love quilts with black backgrounds. Your colours shimmer! For me, I would play with the idea of an inner border between the centre star and then the stars. Maybe repeat the light purple from the very centre. But then again I would let myself change my mind back to the way you have it! Enjoy! Thanks for sharing.

I agree with the others. Please don't sash the stars. They are perfect as they are. I like Gari's suggestion of a black fabric with bright colours in it to act as a border between the stars and the maze blocks. It will be stunning when it is done.

I would just add a border between the stars and garden maze...looks lovely!

WOW, I love how this quilt is looking. I would agree with others to not sash the stars and I would use a solid black for the first border.

Wow this is a great quilt! I love black and vibrant colors. I am fully in love with this.
I totally agree with everyone that there should not be any sashing between the stars.
I may have to follow you and Kate and do one myself.

I guess I have a different point of view. A narrow border on the blocks will allow each of them to stand along and shine. My guild recently did a black and bright raffle quilt and we put sashing between the blocks and they looked even better.

Your quilt is a beauty. I would suggest a border around the center medallion and a border to separate the outer squares from the stars. But you would have to probably put a small border around each star block as well, so they would still fit around the medallion.

Thanks for linking up to Design Wall Monday. I love to see what others are up to!

Perfect choice! I would put a little border between the stars and see if that brings it up to the size you need and if not, add another one all around.

Since you have a design wall, why not see how it would look with borders? It is great as is but what I see is more happening when the stars meet each other like you have them now. That is, there are black shapes that aren't stars in the spaces between the stars. Not necessarily a problem but it might be calmer with a border. Not that I ever make anything calm.

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous! The garden maze border really works with the center stars. I think just a border between the stars and the garden maze blokss would look great.

Your border has a very stained glass look. Very interesting quilt in the works.
